SMEI Announces NEED Workshop
The Science and Mathematics Education Institute at Fort Hays State University (SMEI) and the National Energy Education Development Program (NEED) have partnered to provide teachers in Kansas with curriculum and training opportunities on a variety of energy topics. Additional support has been provided by Midwest Energy, Inc.
A 2-day workshop is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, July 20 and 21, at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays. The workshop will provide valuable resources and training to teach energy in the classroom while meeting state and national education standards. NEED materials are designed to provide educators with the background and hands-on lessons needed to educate and energize students and encourage an understanding of energy that is shared with their peers and their families.
The workshop will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A $20 fee includes lunch, snacks, a model solar-powered race car, and a curriculum packet. An optional one-hour graduate credit is available. Teachers who complete the workshop will have the opportunity to check-out NEED energy kits from the SMEI Resource Center for use in their classrooms.
