CLASS GENERATES CHINESE CUISINE 101
Chinese Cuisine 101 is a collection of essays and accompanying recipes written by Chinese students in the English Composition 101 class of Jason Harper. Harper is a FHSU English Department faculty teaching in Xinzheng City at Sias International, Henan Province, China. He teaches writing face-to-face for students enrolled in the international academic partnership.
 
This program allows students from China - as well as from all over the world - to take FHSU courses in English while remaining in China and study to earn a Bachelor’s of General Studies, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications, a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management, or a Bachelor’s of Arts in Organizational Leadership.
 
As a way to get his students to be excited about Composition, Harper thought a collection of essays would do the trick. He discovered his students were happy to share their background in Chinese food and China’s food culture, so they whipped up some tempting treats into their recipes, using topics and supporting details, such as personal anecdotes, family recipes passed down from generation to generation, historical accounts of a recipe’s origin, legends from China’s mysterious past, and a few other surprises.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund for outstanding Composition 101 students enrolled in the partnership program between Fort Hays State University and SIAS International University!
