What Do You Call 500 Students, 18 Faculty/Staff, and a Whole Lot of Food? . . . a Successful Event Of Course
December 13, was a night like many others on campus – with a few exceptions. First, final exams began the next day (a few had actually already been given). Second, food was being served at the Memorial Union – from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. What has become the annual “Finals Feeding Frenzy” involved 18 faculty and staff from across campus who volunteered to wait on students, sling drinks, and bus tables. In a mere two hours approximately 500 plates were prepared and served.
The event was organized by the Memorial Union, Student Residential Life, The Residence Hall Association, the University Activities Board, and the Drug and Alcohol Wellness Network in conjunction with Chartwell’s Food Service. It coincided with Forsyth Library’s “Late Night at the Library” events. The Finals Feeding Frenzy was both a stress buster (what busts stress better than food?) and a reward for the hard work students undertake in preparing for and taking finals. It is also an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to see each other outside of their usual roles and gain a deeper appreciation for each other. Judging by the smiles that night, the event was a success. Thanks to all of the faculty, staff and students involved.
