Gleichsner Receives Excellence Award

Dr. Jean GleichsnerDr. Jean Gleichsner, associate professor of agriculture at Fort Hays State University, was awarded Campus Compact's 2013 award for Excellence in Community-Based Teaching and Scholarship for the state of Kansas by Campus Compact. She also was selected as a Kansas Compact Engaged Faculty Fellow for the 2012-2013 year.

Gleichsner, an associate professor of agriculture integrates community service learning projects into most of her courses. These include a rain barrel project, participate in Swipe out Hunger events, and beautification projects in her Home Horticulture class.

She began employment at FHSU in Aug. 1988 as assistant professor, and was promoted to associate professor in 1995. Gleichsner earned two Bachelor degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural education in 1982 and a Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy awarded in 1983. In 1987, she earned a Master's degree followed by a Ph.D. in 1988, both from Oregon State University,
Corvallis.
